NewsWatch Native America to Report from the
Democratic National Convention

By Myron Struck

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., Aug. 22 -- The Democratic National Convention will be a very special venue, and forum, for Native Americans to exercise their political clout in an election period in which their vote takes on special meaning. Both parties are actively courting Native American voters and believe that the forthcoming presidential election will be very tight. The Native American vote, scattered from Maine to Florida and from Alaska to Arizona, is very likely to make the difference.

To enhance the opportunities to communicate Native American positions and issues that will affect the presidential, and other, races, NewsWatch Native America -- a premier source of information for and about Indian Country -- will be in Denver at the Democratic National Convention next week.

An unprecedented number of Native American delegates will participate in the first nomination of a person of color to serve as the United States president -- and as the leader of the Free World.

"We'll be talking to Native American delegates, tribal leaders, and officials, attending events presented by and for Indian tribes, and listening to speeches and presentations with one particular focus in mind -- how will this impact Indian Country?," said NWNA Publisher Tanya Lee. "We'll report frequently on what we learn and what it means Ð edited journalism that puts it all in context. Stories will be posted first on our home page, www.newswatchnativeamerica.com, so bookmark the page now to have immediate access to convention stories with a focus."

Native American interests can also sign-up for a customized feed of any materials generated by the news service. Lee will be on site, and can be reached for interviews and to expand on the message of Native American interests, either through her cell-phone number or via e-mail.

Delegates, tribal leaders, tribal members and elected representatives are invited to get in touch with NewsWatch to request an interview. Contact Tanya Lee, publisher@newswatchnativeamerica.com, 603/377-0267, or Myron Struck, editor@newswatchnativeamerica.com, 703/866-4708.
