Prairie Island Indian Community Files as Intervenor in Nuclear Plant Relicensing Proceeding
WASHINGTON, Sept. 11 -- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has announced that a petition to intervene in the proceeding for the relicensing of the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant has been submitted on behalf of the Prairie Island Indian Community.
This proceeding involves an application for renewal of the licenses that authorize Nuclear Management Company to operate Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2 for a 20-year period beyond their current expiration dates of, respectively, Aug. 9, 2013 and Oct. 29, 2014.
The NRC intends to establish an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board to preside over the proceeding.
